  1. August 29:  First day of classes.  Course and instructor introduction.  Link to learning expectations for this course.  Link to course syllabus.
  2. August 31:  Beginning lecture:  Introduction to Database Design
  3. September 5:  Students must bring a Flash drive to class on this night.  Data files must be placed on a Flash drive to avoid running out of space for your database projects during the semester.  During the last session of the evening, you will be required to download the data files to your disk as an activity so you cannot complete the activity without the disk.  Students must bring a copy of the Access 2003 textbook to class on this night.
  4. Class communications:  Communications will include limited e-mail messages and announcements on this site.  Students should check this site on a regular basis.  The e-mail facility on the University site is the official e-mail facility for the University.  The University places responsibility on students to maintain and view this facility on a regular basis.  Students should periodically delete unwanted e-mail messages from the University account to avoid filling their mailboxes to capacity.  Students who prefer to forward e-mail to a different account or prefer to have e-mail sent to a different account can find instructions for these types of procedures on the following link: E-Mail Instructions

  7. October 3:  Access Project 2 due.  Projects should be submitted at the beginning of class.
  8. October 5:  First Exam
  9. October 10:  Access Project 3 due Projects should be submitted at the beginning of class.
  10. October 14 - 17:  Fall Break (No classes during these days)
  11. October 24:  Access Project 4 due.  Projects should be submitted at the beginning of class.
  12. October 26:  Distribute semester projects, organization of teams, and work on group projects.

November 2:  Note:  A draft copy of the logical design, to include a Class Diagram, attribute chart, and normalization procedues is due on March 30.  A complete draft copy of these item is due for inspection at the beginning of class on April 4.  The normalization procedures should follow the format and handouts that were distributed and illustrated during class.
  15. November 9:  Final logical design completed.
  16. November 14:  Data collection completed
  17. November 21:  Form and Report Design completed.
  18. November 28:  Final project design review and modification completed
  19. November 30:  Final project submission due.  Short oral report.  All members must be present. Entire class should be present
  20. December 5:  Comprehensive Exam
  21. December 7:  Study Day.  No classes on this date.
  22. Final exam schedule:  Verify these times and dates in your Schedule of Classes.  The University administration requires attendance during the final exam.
